New Orleans Universities Participate in Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

There’s a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that asks "life’s most urgent and persistent question is: what are you doing for others?” First spoken by Dr. King in 1957, it reverberated in speeches throughout the remainder of his life. It is the guiding principle in the Day of Service, a holiday spent “on” instead of “off”. For a decade, several New Orleans universities have come together -  students, faculties and families - to do for others, specifically, to address the New Orleans Diaspora of Hurricane Katrina. This year, participants from Tulane University, Dillard University, Loyola University and the University of New Orleans will honor Dr. King's legacy by pitching in across the city to do for others. WWNO's Karl Lengel sat down with LeeAnne Sipe of UNO, one of the Day of Service coordinators to find out more.

Karl Lengel worked at New Orleans Public Radio for more than two decades before leaving the station in 2023.
