  • Two decades of peace — an anomaly in the turbulent Horn of Africa — are paying off for Somaliland, Somalia's secessionist northwestern enclave. Although not officially recognized as an independent nation, Somaliland is attracting investors, including a $17 million Coca-Cola bottling plant.

  • An Israeli judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit brought by the family of pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie. The judge ruled the death of the American was not caused by the negligence of the Israeli state or army. Corrie was crushed by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003 while protesting the demolition of a Palestinian home in the southern Gaza Strip.
  • A full slate of events gets underway at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Tuesday. Organizers will use the convention to give voters a more personal feel for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.   • NASA Rover Curiosity has been making history since it descended onto the surface of the Red Planet. At a news conference Monday, the rover made history again when it broadcast from the surface of Mars. NASA sent a data file of the recording up to the rover, and then beamed it back down.
  • Egypt's new President Mohammed Morsi is on his first major foreign tour. He's visiting China, and later this week Iran which is hosting a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. Morsi says he wants to re-assert Egypt's influence in the Middle East and work with other regional powers to find a way to end the conflict in Syria.
  • Republicans meeting in Florida will officially nominate Mitt Romney as their presidential nominee Tuesday. The convention gets into full swing after a day of weather delays. The platform committee says final approval of the document will come this afternoon.
  • Police say Fernando Santana Eagleheart was watching a movie in Sparks, Nev., when he dropped his gun and it fired. According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, Eagleheart apologized to the crowd in the theater as he left. Nobody was hurt except Eagleheart. He faces a misdemeanor charge for firing the gun.
