Louisiana Governors Project: Louisiana Cultural Vistas Interviews Edwin Edwards

In advance of the 2015 elections, Louisiana Cultural Vistas has been interviewing past Louisiana governors about what it takes to hold the state office.  Here, Edwin Edwards gives his take.

"Recognize that you can't do everything," Edwards says. "I don't care how good or powerful you are. When you get out of here in the next four or eight years there will sill be something left for the next governor to do!"

What surprised Edwards about holding the office of governor after first elected?

"What surprised me was the power," he says. "The ability to get things done — and the need to do things otherwise they didn't happen."

As for how to handle the press?

"Tell is like it is."

A longer, video version of the LCV interview is here. The Louisiana Endowment for Humanities has been holding public events about past governors and their administrations across the state.
