  • WWNO/WRKF public health reporter Rosemary Westwood tells us how the state’s fourth surge in COVID-19 cases is affecting the region’s hospitals and reports on what healthcare workers are seeing, including a drastic spike in COVID-19 cases among children younger than 12.
  • Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center vice president of mission Coletta Barrett tells us about OLOL’s emergency-room visit HIV and hepatitis testing program, where patients are tested for the two STDs unless they opt out. The goal of the program is to proactively screen for hepatitis and HIV in a way that doesn’t make patients feel singled out for testing so they can seek treatment before passing along the diseases to others.
  • Ochsner Health Center pediatrician Dr. Truc Dinh tells us about a recent spike in cases of RSV in South Louisiana. RSV usually circulates during winter and causes mild cold-like symptoms, but can be dangerous for infants and older adults.
