The holiday season is in the rearview mirror in many cities across the nation, but in New Orleans, many are gearing up for Carnival season, starting with Twelfth Night. The Phunny Phorty Phellows prepare to ride the rails on January 6, heralding the start — and return — of Mardi Gras 2022.
The annual historic St. Charles streetcar ride starts at the Willow Streetcar Barn and travels through the traditional Uptown parade route. And this year, the parade is filled with some extra anticipation, as it marks the return of a customary Carnival season after a one-year hiatus of parades due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
