DOD Says Medal Of Honor Recommendation Got Lost In The Mail

Army Capt. William Swenson finally received the Medal of Honor last fall, four years after he earned it.

There had been speculation that the Army had spiked his Medal of Honor recommendation because he was critical of his superiors for the way they handled the battle of Ganjal in September 2009, during which five of Swenson’s fellow troops were killed.

But this week, the Department of Defense released the results of its investigation into what happened to Swenson’s Medal of Honor recommendation. The investigation found that it got lost in the Army’s fragmented email system.
