The Montage Fine and Performing Arts 2012-13 season at Loyola University New Orleans kicks off this month with more than 100 events, including classical and jazz music concerts, opera, theatre and ballet productions, and visual arts exhibits.
This year’s Montage season celebrates the centennial of Loyola University New Orleans, and the line-up includes some of the world’s most distinguished artists, including: the critically-acclaimed Tokyo String Quartet, in a special farewell performance; an exclusive concert by Wynton Marsalis, featuring acclaimed saxophonist Victor Goines; the return of long-time New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra maestro Philippe Entremont in Beethoven’s “Triple Concerto”; pianist Rev. Séan Duggan in J.S. Bach’s “Art of the Fugue”; and percussionist and former Loyola student Brian Blade at the 44th annual Loyola Jazz Festival.
Additionally, the series will showcase performances by major student ensembles, including the Loyola Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band and Jazz Band, among others. Multiple faculty groups will also be featured on the season, including the inaugural performance of the new Fr. James Carter, S.J., Faculty String Quartet and the premiere of Loyola’s Ignatius Saxophone Quartet.
The Loyola Opera will present two performances of Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide,” and the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will offer a series of plays, as well as “The Money Box,” an all-new musical by Ricky Graham, Sean Patterson and Jefferson Turner.
Masterclasses this season will include Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Samuel Ramey, Greer Grimsley, the Jerusalem String Quartet, Stephen Hough, Christopher Martin, Jose Franch-Ballester, Roberto Diaz and many others.
The Department of Art and Design will feature the work of visiting artist Mark Dion, a special “Mentors” exhibit of works by distinguished faculty and alumni, and the season-ending, highly popular Graphic Design Senior Show and Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibit.
