Roux Carre is a new food court in Central City, conceived and managed by the nonprofit Good Work Network as a project to help more women and minorities stake a claim in the growing New Orleans restaurant sector.
It’s all housed in a shaded courtyard, which might seem like an unconventional setting for lunch during a New Orleans summer but proves to be a quick, satisfying stop for meals on the go. It’s also an open and social setting, designed to invite the neighborhood in and to host special events and community gatherings.
This weekend brings a big one on Saturday, June 25, with the NOLA Caribbean Festival. There will be bands representing different Caribbean music styles all day, including a brass band, and special island-inspired dishes from the Roux Carre vendors.
Where: 2000 O.C. Haley Blvd., 504-309-2073
When: regulars hours are Sun.-Thu., 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
