New Orleans, La. – Backwater flooding is getting close to structures in Butte Larose. Starting at noon tomorrow, no one will be able to enter the area. Sandbagging in Belle River will end today. Residents can fill sandbags in Stephensville. Diversion continues at the Morganza Spillway on the Mississippi River north of Baton Rouge. The Coast Guard closed nine miles of the river at the state capital after three barges sank in the strong currents. Salvage plans are under review. The Port of New Orleans says maritime activity continues there despite the river closing.
