Slidell police say Mayor Freddy Drennan has called a dusk-to-dawn curfew for Hurricane Isaac.
Assistant Chief Kevin Foltz says it probably will be lifted at daylight Thursday.
It won't apply to emergency workers. Foltz says the curfew is designed to keep the roads clear for emergency crews, to protect city residents and to make it easier for police to protect their property.
And since street flooding is likely, police remind city residents that it's illegal to drive through flooded areas where their cars may push water into people's houses, and violators will be arrested. Foltz says that if water is an inch from someone's house, a vehicle driving through can mean the difference between a dry house and property damage.
