Mayor Landrieu Pledges Help for Haiti

Mayor Mitch Landrieu is in Haiti to offer support for ongoing recovery work there from the 2010 earthquake. The city has some advice for the island nation on what worked after Hurricane Katrina.

Mayor Landrieu says the city can help Haiti rebuild by passing on what it’s learned in the seven years since Hurricane Katrina. He says he wants Haiti to reimagine what it can be — a message he’s repeated for New Orleans.

The announcement, made along with former president Bill Clinton, comes with help from the Middle East nation of Qatar. It donated $100 million to the Gulf Coast after Katrina. Qatar is now sending $12 million toward reconstruction from the quake.

Landrieu says the city can help Haiti with advice on rebuilding health care, tourism and other recovery issues.
