Louisiana's state school board is holding a special meeting later this morning on the ongoing battle to adopt Common Coe education standards.
The board will consider whether to sue Governor Bobby Jindal in the ongoing dispute.
Jindal opposes the multi-state standards.
Education Superintendent John White and most members of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education continue to support them.
Up for discussion at today’s meeting is whether the board should join a lawsuit accusing the governor of illegally meddling in education policy or file its own lawsuit.
Jindal suspended state testing contracts the Department of Education intended to use to buy testing material aligned with the standards.
The contract suspension has stalled standardized testing plans for students in third-grade through eighth-grade, with the school year starting in about two weeks.
