Organizers of the Louisiana Film Prize narrowed the field of films vying for the $50,000 prize to 20 finalists during an event Tuesday evening at the Robinson Film Center in Shreveport. The contest is in its third year.
The filmmakers had to shoot their short film in northwest Louisiana to be eligible. Louisiana Film Prize creator Gregory Kallenberg thanked the filmmakers for entering their work.
“There is a deep appreciation from me and everyone on my team to the work that you did,” Kallenberg said to a packed room. “There were 105 registrations that came in, and all did work to try to make a film for the film prize. What is wonderful and simultaneously heartbreaking for me personally is that I have to send some of you guys home.”
The film prize will be decided Oct. 10-13 with a combined audience and judging panel vote. Kallenberg said two-thirds of the short films made this year were from people who live outside the area.
