Inside The Arts: JazzFest Celebrates 50 Years, Rigoletto, New Orleans Music Showcase

Apr 23, 2019

This week on Inside the Arts, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell celebrates its 50th Anniversary! We take a world journey through the Cultural Exchange Pavilion. Coordinator Valérie Guillet joins us with Helen Regis, LSU associate professor of Anthropology and guitarist Javier Olando, leader of the group AsheSon.

Then, the New Orleans Opera Association closes its season with Verdi's masterpiece, Rigoletto. The popular opera, rich in drama and music, was controversial in its day. Director Jose Maria Condemi is here with all the details.

And, competition is in full swing among local musicians vying for a chance to perform live at the 2019 ESSENCE Festival. Online voting is underway as the New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation are holding a first-of-its-kind New Orleans Music Showcase for the 25th Anniversary ESSENCE Festival. Mark Romig, president and CEO of New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation stops by for a chat.
