For the first time in more than a month, there were no new deaths reported in Orleans Parish over the past 24 hours, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. That's a welcome development for one of the most notable COVID-19 hotspots in the country.

Other metrics released Monday by the state health department show similar signs of progress against the deadly virus. Statewide, there were 27 deaths reported. And the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 was 295. Both of those numbers represent the smallest increases in their respective categories in nearly a month.

Finally, another good sign: the numbers of people requiring hospitalizations and ventilators continued their largely downward climb.
