This week on The Reading Life: Susan talks with Louisiana state poet laureate Jack Bedell, whose new book is “No Brother, This Storm," and we take a look back at 2018.

Here in New Orleans:

  • Gina Ferrara presents the Poetry Buffet with Joan Barasovska, Lee Meitzen Grue ,and Clare Martin reading from her new book, “Crone,” Saturday, January 5, at 2 p.m. at Latter Library.
  • Brandi Perry discusses and signs her novel, “Splintered,” Sunday, January 6, from 2-3:30 at Garden District Book Shop.
  • The New Orleans Museum of Art and the Frick Collection will host a two-day symposium, January 11-12, 2019, in conjunction with The Orleans Collection, an exhibition dedicated to the collecting and collection of Philippe II, Duke of Orléans (1674–1723) and on view at NOMA through January 27, 2019.   • Antenna and the New Orleans Writers Workshop are will host Business Bootcamp for Writers with the Authors Guild Foundation and publishing pros from Penguin Random House. It takes place Saturday, February 2, from 10-5 at Antenna, 3718 St. Claude Ave., and it is free, but registration is required by January 7. Go to antennaworks.com to reserve a place; registration is limited. This one-day intensive workshop includes instruction on the business side of writing, breakout sessions to share experiences with your fellow writers, and Q&As with industry experts, wrapping up with a networking happy hour reception.
