Janae Pierre Departs For Public Radio Post In Birmingham

You may have already heard that our local All Things Considered host, Janae Pierre, is leaving for a new job with WBHM in Birmingham, Alabama. We on the staff of New Orleans Public Radio have known about her impending departure for awhile, but we are all so sad to see her go that we’ve each avoided stepping up to write her "going away" story.  Now, however, we can avoid it no longer!

Janae arrived at WWNO nearly two years ago after working with several local media organizations, notably the New Orleans Tribune and local radio station WBOK 1230 AM, where she began as a college intern. Here at WWNO, in addition to hosting All Things Considered, she hosted and produced our weekly local news and culture program, All Things New Orleans.

"Janae has been a great part of our on-air team," said General Manager Paul Maassen.  "She brought a youthful New Orleans style to All Things Considered, and, as ATNO host, she opened listeners' ears to musicians and thought leaders from all across the city.  We are proud to have had a place in her career."

At WBHM, Janae will again host All Things Considered, but she will also have the opportunity for local news reporting, with a special focus on arts and culture, and food, in the Birmingham area.  She told us, "Birmingham has its own touch on Southern food and culture, and I’m eager to find out all about it."

Asked what she will take away from her experience at New Orleans Public Radio, Janae said, "I learned that you can never be too curious!  Whether it’s politics or arts and culture, always ask questions; there’s always more to know."

Please join all of us at WWNO in wishing Janae much success in her new position. We know she's going to be such a success!
