This Friday, President Obama will announce major reforms to the NSA and its intelligence-gathering activities, in an effort to balance the rights of privacy while maintaining national security.

Also this week, Congress will confront two critical budget issues as lawmakers scramble to finish negotiations on a massive bill that would fund the government through September, and another that would reinstate expired unemployment benefits.

And finally, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie faces the after-effects of the scandalous George Washington Bridge lane closures.

NPR’s senior Washington editor Ron Elving joins Here & Now’s Robin Young to discuss the week ahead in politics.
