New Orleans, Louisiana – The eighth annual New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival, otherwise known as Patois, runs from Wednesday, April 13th through Sunday, April 17th. This year, Patois has three themes: food justice, music as resistance, and the global South. Film topics range from the Angola 3, to a make-shift symphony in Kinshasa, to musician Phil Ochs, to revolutionizing Baltimore's public school cafeterias. The festival opens with an evening dedicated to another looming anniversary: the Gulf Oil Disaster. Eve Abrams found out how oil and movies mix. Monique Harden, from Advocates for Environmental Human Rights will be speaking at the event, and the documentary feature, Hot Coffee will also be screened.
