New Orleans, Louisiana – What does it take to open a grocery store? In the case of the New Orleans Food Cooperative, nine years, 1800 members, innumerable volunteer hours, and a visionary renovation. For healthy food shoppers all over New Orleans, and especially residents living east of the French Quarter, the New Orleans Food Coop's recent opening was an emotional, celebratory event. Eve Abrams talked with folks making groceries on the corner of St. Roch and St. Claude Avenues, inside the New Orleans Healing Center.
