New Orleans, La. – Mayor Landrieu says two organizations are signing on to run Memorial Hospital when it reopens in New Orleans East. The Franciscan Mission of Our Lady will run the hospital. Daughters of Charity will be in charge of clinical operations. He says it could take more than two years for the 80-bed hospital to reopen, but highlighted other signs of public and private investment.
"We have a very, very long way to go. But I would ask those of you in the East to be aware that not only do we have today, but across the street the library is under construction. The Joe Brown Pool Park is almost ready for all of us to put our swimsuits on and take our first dip. We made major announcements out at NASA and Michoud with Blade Dynamics and with TCI, so I can fairly say that the recovery is roaring back."
Earlier, Landrieu announced a 2-and-a-half-mile streetcar line will be built along Rampart Street at the French Quarter through Treme to the Bywater. It's in addition to a line planned from Canal Street to the Union Passenger Terminal in the Central Business District.
