A 45-year-old Covington woman has pleaded guilty for her role in a scheme stemming from her employment at a sleep study clinic.
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says Angelina Leahy entered the plea Wednesday to one count of health care fraud.
According to the indictment, Leahy was the part-time billing clerk at the clinic in Covington, while her husband, Boyd Leahy, was the office manager. The indictment says the Leahys conspired to commit fraud by creating a rival business that they used to fraudulently bill insurance companies for services that were actually done by their employing clinic. Letten says they then kept the proceeds and Angelina Leahy doctored records to hide the fraud.
Leahy faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Oct. 18.
