BP says oil that gushed from its undersea well two years ago is washing up along the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Isaac is being blamed for churning up the sludge.
BP says coastal erosion caused by the hurricane is exposing oil along the shore. It’s assisting the Coast Guard and state agencies in cleaning up tar mats and tar balls pushed ashore by the slow-moving hurricane last week. Tar balls and oil are appearing on beaches in Louisiana and Alabama that previously appeared clean.
Louisiana closed more than 10 miles of state waters near Port Fourchon after large oil mats were spotted. Hurricane Isaac made landfall there with 80 mile-an-hour winds.
