Jefferson Parish President Attempts to Purge Housing Board

Jefferson Parish President John Young has ordered six members of the parish housing authority board from their posts.

Young sent one-sentence letters Friday to board chairman Patrick Pierson and members Hunley Dufour Jr., William Boada Sr., Terrell Harris, Mary Snowden and Simone Scanio. Each letter accuses them of neglecting their duties.

The move comes days after the six either opposed or abstained from a vote to fire former Executive Director Barry Bordelon from his current post as maintenance supervisor. Bordelon came under fire for $600,000 in questionable spending in a federal audit and resigned his old job, but the board hired him for the new post.

In removal letters, Young cites a state law that gives board members 10 days to appeal to the parish council.
