2 Accused of Swine Theft in Catahoula Parish

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry says a 26-year-old Jonesville man and a teenager are accused of stealing two hogs in Catahoula Parish.

Department spokeswoman Veronica Mosgrove says Chester Jones and a 17-year-old each was booked with criminal trespassing, aggravated cruelty to animals and two counts of livestock theft.

She says Livestock Brand Commission officers and sheriff's deputies arrested them Dec. 31. Chester remained jailed Wednesday in lieu of $25,000 bond; the teenager was released on $7,500 bond.

Mosgrove does not know whether either has an attorney.

She says one live hog and butchered meat from the other were returned to the owner.

Mosgrove says the cruelty charge is because of the method of killing. She says the arresting officer wouldn't give details because they're evidence in the case.
