Dr. JamesBoldin, associate professor of music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, recently published “Solo Duet Training for Horns,” a collection of instructive duets for the French horn.

“Duet playing is a traditional component of music instruction, because it encourages students to emulate the tone, style, and phrasing of a more experienced player,” saidBoldin.

“‘Solo Duet Training for Horns’ can provide numerous benefits for students, including better rhythmic integrity, improved accuracy and intonation, more mature concepts of style and phrasing, and greater awareness of and sensitivity to the orchestral and piano parts.”

The musical selections are based upon seven of the most popular solo works for horn, and are intended to help students develop the skills necessary for successful performances.
