Things are looking bright for the city of West Monroe, thanks to the "One Mile of Love" project. The one mile mural on the Trenton Street levee currently shows artwork from some of the most talented students in the area.

Citizens of Monroe and West Monroe are lighting up the city this summer with paint brushes in hand on the Trenton Street levee.

Justin Ferguson is a graphic design major at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a volunteer for the One Mile of Love project. He says the project's goal is to display some of the city's most beautiful features and to create a unique landmark for the city.

"It's something to beautify their city, something they can be proud of," says Ferguson. "Nobody wants to drive by and stare at a gray wall and this project adds a certain 'pizazz.'"

Ferguson says out of all the feedback the group has received so far, the good has outweighed the bad.

"Ninety five percent of it has been positive and everyone we've spoken to along the road have said that they like it," Ferguson said.

Ferguson says the wall is expected to be completed by the end of September and anyone is welcome to volunteer.
