A Century In Carrollton: Remembering Bud Adams

The Historic New Orleans Collection

Lynward "Bud" Adams experienced nearly a century of life in New Orleans. Born and raised in Carrollton, Bud became a barber after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He cut hair on Oak Street for over 70 years, until he passed away in the fall of 2021. In this first person narrative produced by the Historic New Orleans Collection, Bud chronicles his life, beginning with one of his earliest memories — the 1927 flood.

Sarah Holtz covers local history. Her work has also aired on Houston Public Media, Northern California Public Media, KFAI, KTOO, KUNM, WCAI, WGBH, and WWOZ.
Mark Cave is an oral historian and senior curator at the Historic New Orleans Collection.
