This morning, a coalition of civil rights groups met at the state capitol as state lawmakers kick off Louisiana's redistricting session.

Those groups protested against the proposed congressional maps, which do not include an additional majority-Black district, from Republican State Senator Sharon Hewitt and Republican House Speaker Clay Schexnayder. WRKF’s capitol reporter Paul Braun tells us what he heard live at the scene.

At the end of his term in June, New Orleans Public School Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr. is stepping down.

Already the Orleans Parish School Board has begun searching for his replacement. WWNO’s education reporter Aubri Juhasz spoke to Orleans Parish School Board President Olin Parker and Vice President JC Wagner Romero to learn how they plan to incorporate community feedback into the hiring process.
