Louisiana Eats! Moves To The Fabulous SoFAB

Host Poppy Tooker carries equipment into the Southern Food and Beverage Museum for the show's big move. SoFAB is now the new home of the Louisiana Eats! studios.

Big news on this week’s Louisiana Eats! We move into our new studios, located in the Southern Food and Beverage Museum on Oretha Castle Haley in Central City.

SoFAB, as the museum is affectionately called, is a nonprofit living history organization dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and related culture of the South. At SoFAB, all of the cultures that are part of the South’s unique culinary heritage come together, bringing all races and ethnicities to the table to tell the tale – from the farmer and the homemaker, to the line cook and the celebrity chef – exactly what we strive to do every week on Louisiana Eats!

SoFAB founder Liz Williams gives a tour of the museum’s exhibits, including a newly installed one dedicated to the 90-year-old Natco Food Service. Naturally, we sought out third generation Natco proprietors, Anne Babin and John Lalla, to hear the history of their family’s business.

Then, Jyl Benson and Poppy make exciting cooking plans together in the Rouse’s Culinary Innovation Center, located just steps away from the Louisiana Eats! studio. How about a Louisiana Eats and Cooks Club, bringing together listeners, cooks, cookbook authors and enthusiastic eaters for monthly cooking classes that conclude with a delicious communal meal? That project is in the works, scheduled to begin at the end of May 2015. Wait 'til you see that kitchen!

We serve up some Southern grits in our Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Quiz Question, and finally, we explore food and segregation with Leah Chase and the late Rudy Lombard as we tour the Leah Chase Gallery at SoFAB. Don't miss our big move, on this week's Louisiana Eats!

Poppy is the host and executive producer of the weekly show, Louisiana Eats! Food personality, culinary teacher and author, Poppy Tooker is passionate about food and the people who bring it to the table.
