Redbirds Peck Zephyrs Apart, 18-2

Jamie Romak pounded three home runs as the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Zephyrs 18-3 on Monday night at Autozone Park in Memphis.

The Redbirds offense racked up 18 hits and five home runs. Romak tied a Memphis franchise record with three home runs in the game, including a solo shot in the third inning, a two run shot in the fifth and a three run blast in the seventh. He went three for five with six runs batted in.

Memphis added two more home runs, a solo shot by Rob Johnson and a three run home run by Chad Huffman.

The Zephyrs scored first, loading the bases in the first and pushing across a run on a Ben Lasater RBI.  Lasater added a RBI single in the sixth inning. Gorkys Hernandez led New Orleans with three hits in his four at bats.

Memphis' Tyler Lyons pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and earned his first win of the season. ElihVillanueva took the loss for the Zephyrs, pitching four and two thirds and allowing seven runs.

The Zephyrs' record falls to 2-3 on the season, and Memphis improved to 2-3.

Game Notes – The Zephyrs 18 runs allowed on Monday is the most since June 6, 2011, when Nashville scored 19. The loss is the largest margin of defeat to Memphis and most runs ever allowed to Memphis in 241 meetings between the clubs.

The Zephyrs lead the league in turning 10 double-plays.
