It was a routine stop — the Kenner Police officers who pulled him over said Sanchez had run a red light — but it ended with Sanchez in a federal immigration detention center.

Amid calls from President Donald Trump for a nationwide immigration crackdown and an end to so-called “sanctuary” policies, at least two Louisiana law enforcement agencies have recently joined forces with federal immigration authorities, enlisting local officers to identify and detain undocumented immigrants in their custody.

Danette Colbert, 48, was already charged with theft and using the credit card of Adan Manzano, 27, an anchor and reporter for Telemundo in Kansas City. He was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl. The manner of Manzano’s death is still undetermined, but he had a high level of alcohol and Xanax in his system, the Jefferson Parish coroner said.
