Federal agents are set to conduct a two-month immigration crackdown starting Dec. 1. The operation aims to arrest around 5,000 people across southeast Louisiana and Mississippi.

The climate talks — known as Conference of the Parties, or COP30 for this year’s edition — have long left Indigenous people out or relegated them to the sidelines.

A lawsuit filed Monday says the inhumane conditions of the newly opened “Louisiana Lockup” violate Double Jeopardy protections and that detainees should be released if the government fails to deport them after six months.
