Lecture on Maya art at McNeese

A free lecture on the concepts of time and space as represented in the art of the Maya culture will be presented Thursday at McNeese State University.

The speaker will be David Ouellette, a McNeese assistant professor of art history. The presentation will be at 6 p.m. in the Stokes Auditorium at Hardtner Hall.

The lecture will cover Mayan concepts of time and space and the way these motifs are manifest in art, architecture and hieroglyphic texts. The lecture will also address the significance of the December 2012 date in the Maya calendar, its existence in the archaeological record and what it may have meant to the Maya.

More information on the lecture is available by contacting the McNeese State visual arts department at 337-475-5060.
