The American Business Women's Association opened an Express network in New Orleans last Thursday, with financial and logistical help from the LaCapitale Baton Rouge chapter.

New Orleans is growing its reputation as a business and technology hub, and as of last week, there are new resources for women entrepreneurs in the city.

The American Business Women's Association chartered a new league in New Orleans last Thursday, with financial and logistical help from the LaCapitale Baton Rouge chapter.

Wendy Dolan is a website programmer and the founder of Get Online NOLA, an organization that helps businesses utilize online resources to gain visibility.  Dolan was active in opening the Crescent City Connections ABWA chapter.

“New Orleans is a really great place to be an entrepreneur and its becoming more and more of a great place for female entrepreneurs or female businesswomen,” Dolan says. “But, the wage gap in Louisiana is so troubling, and we can do more to encourage young women to understand that they do have the potential to earn as much as men, and to really fight for themselves.”

ABWA New Orleans has monthly business luncheons, and will soon start fundraising for college scholarships. The group will also team up with other women’s organizations in the city for mentorship opportunities.
