New Orleans, La. – The proposed settlement involves companies that supplied drywall blamed for emitting foul odors and corroding electrical wiring and appliances. A Louisiana building supplier and two of its insurance companies would pay $8 million into a settlement fund. An attorney for the homeowners says the deal wouldn't cover all the repair bills, but is a "step in the right direction." Much of the material was used from 2004 to 2008 in Gulf Coast states that sustained hurricane damage while demand was high during a building boom. A federal judge is handling more than 10-thousand claims pending over the Chinese products.
