Federal Prosecutor Resigns After Posting Online Comments

The federal prosecutor who posted anonymous online comments about cases he was handling is no longer with the U.S. Attorney’s office.  Sal Perricone has resigned.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says he accepted Perricone's resignation today. In a written statement, Letten says his office remains focused on its cases, and his office rejects what he calls the “caustic criticisms and sentiments” in the postings. Letten says Perricone told him last week that he was the author of comments posted on nola.com under the name "Henry L. Mencken1951". He commented on cases he was involved with, as well as about officials, including Letten and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. The Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility is continuing its investigation of Perricone’s comments.
