New Orleans Saints fans are celebrating news that an appeals panel has overturned four player suspensions over the bounty investigation. It’s unclear how long the reprieve will last.
Two retired federal court judges and a Georgetown law professor decided NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell overstepped his authority. Goodell decided punishments for the players and several coaches who were accused of taking part in a system of bonuses for injuring opposing players. He also heard their appeals. The ruling doesn’t affect the season-long suspension of Saints coach Sean Payton or address the bounty investigation itself. The NFL says Commissioner Goodell will reconsider the punishments.
