Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump topped the ballots in the Louisiana primary over the weekend, but local elections were also decided.
Voters on the Northshore decided two major issues. In Mandeville, voters re-elected Donald Villere as mayor. He beat a challenge mounted by at-large City Councilman Rick Danielson. Villere took 55 percent of the vote. Danielson won 45 percent.
Two council seats were also decided – District 1 incumbent David Ellis was elected. Newcomer David Pulaski won in District 2. A runoff will be held in April in District 3.
Voters throughout St. Tammany Parish voted overwhelmingly to limit parish council members to three consecutive four-year terms in office.
