A driving force behind the arts and cultural communities in New Orleans has passed away.

Sharon Litwin, the co-founder and president of the NolaVie website, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. She died in Chicago, where she had been receiving hospice care.

Ms. Litwin was a native of Blackpool, England. She moved to New Orleans in 1966. She was a journalist at the States Item and the Times Picayune. She retired after 32 years and, with Renee Peck, founded the NolaVie arts website.

She also was linked to WWNO. General Manager Paul Maassen recalls her contributions.

He said, “Sharon was a passionate advocate for the arts, in both words and actions. She would always go the extra mile for the arts pieces she produced for us. She was part of the WWNO family, a great friend and inspiration and we will deeply miss her.”

Ms. Litwin was 75. A memorial service will be planned in New Orleans.

Eileen is a news reporter and producer for WWNO. She researches, reports and produces the local daily news items. Eileen relocated to New Orleans in 2008 after working as a writer and producer with the Associated Press in Washington, D.C. for seven years.
