About 58,000 homes and businesses in Louisiana are still without power Monday, six days after Hurricane Zeta ripped down power lines and electric poles. Among the places without power are 68 polling places.
More than 7,000 of those outages are in New Orleans. Nearly 51,000 more are without power in coastal parishes, most of those being in Jefferson.
Entergy Louisiana’s website says crews continue to make repairs to the 2,800 poles, 1,800 spans of wire, and 575 transformers that were damaged.
More than 400 polling places were affected by the storm and 68 remain without power Monday.
Three Orleans Parish polling places will require backup power for election day Tuesday:
- Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church at 3756 Louisa St. in the Desire area;
- Blessed Seelos Parish Hall at 3024 Burgundy St. in the Bywater;
- and St. David Catholic Church Parish Hall at 5617 St. Claude Ave. in the Lower 9th Ward.
According to the city, Entergy is setting up generators to keep them online. The Secretary of State’s office issued a statement saying it would ensure all Louisiana polling places have backup power for Tuesday.
