Vintage Beethoven And A Swirling Waltz

The grand 'Emperor' concerto comes roaring back to vivd high-fidelity life via a thrilling performance from one of the century's great pianists. On this broadcast, a true "gem from the archives" is presented: Beethoven's 5th piano concerto with the legendary pianist Eugene Istomin. In this performance from the 1980s, we hear the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony (the predeccesor to the LPO) in fine form as they play under the direction of the precise baton of David Zinman. To round out the show, a moving and nostalgia-filled waltz by Johann Strauss II, performed recently. Both were recorded at the Orpheum Theatre.
