Louisiana Eats: The Ladies Who Cook

Rebecca Wilcomb

Although the kitchen has always been the woman’s domain at home, it’s been a long struggle for the ladies  who cook to rise to the top of their ranks professionally. On this week’s episode, we’re talking with the ladies who have overcome multiple obstacles to reach the top.

We begin with Chef Meg Bickford, the first female to be named sous chef at the legendary Commander’s Palace.  We’ll hear all about her experiences as she worked throughout her pregnancy. That baby made for some interesting times in the kitchen when Meg’s belly kept her from reaching the stove!

Chef Rebecca Wilcomb is having a very good year! Formerly chef de cuisine at Herbsaint where she won Best Chef of the Southeast for her work there in 2017, Rebecca is now at the helm of Gianna, the latest from Donald Link and his team. We catch up with her at Gianna, which was named for her Italian grandmother. Rebecca is a partner in the new venture.

Finally, we hear from Chef Susan Spicer who has blazed the trail for women in the kitchen for several decades now at her flagship restaurant, Bayona.

We’re celebrating the ladies in the kitchen, on this week’s Louisiana Eats!
