The city is requiring more police officers at parades this year, putting higher costs on smaller, independent krewes vital to New Orleans’ Mardi Gras heritage.

Many businesses would normally make a week's worth of profits in a few hours during Chewbacchus and Krewe du Vieux, but some are losing out as parade routes get shortened.
