A law went into effect today [August 1], giving the New Orleans City Council oversight of S&WB projects, budgets and contract approval.

Officials said the city is “now better served by moving forward rather than by prolonging litigation.”

New Orleans city officials announced a proposed agreement with Caesars casino to secure approximately $100 million for the city’s fund balance on Tuesday (April 28).

The city was poised to relinquish the recycling grant altogether, citing budget problems.

More than 1,800 federal, state and local law enforcement officials will be present in New Orleans during Mardi Gras weekend and through Fat Tuesday, city officials announced at a press conference Monday (Feb. 2).

Helena Moreno was sworn in as New Orleans’ 63rd mayor on Monday (Jan. 12), making history as the city’s first Hispanic mayor and the second woman to assume the role.

Members of the mayor’s transition committee on climate and sustainability say the move contradicts their recommendations.
