A law that requires Louisiana’s public K-12 schools, colleges and universities to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom takes effect Wednesday, and the state’s top lawyer said Monday she will soon provide guidance to aid with compliance.

Gabriela Biro surprised many poll watchers by handily winning a runoff election for the Orleans Parish School Board’s 2nd District over a well-endorsed opponent — Eric “Doc” Jones, who has worked in local education for decades.

An all-boys high school in Gentilly will shutter at the end of the month, forcing about 100 students to change schools mid-year.
