After voters rejected an amendment on taxes, Gov. Jeff Landry issued an executive order Wednesday, imposing a hiring freeze on Louisiana’s executive branch in hopes to save the state $20 million.

Republican Gov. Jeff Landry signed an executive order Thursday that directs state agencies to change all references to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana laws and other documents to the “Gulf of America.”

The order will create a new task force on reproductive health care and to coordinate additional steps to help people access abortions.
