Tulane University, through International Education Week and the Carole Barnette Boudreaux ’65 Great Writers Series, welcomes Ocean Vuong to campus for a public talk on November 19, 2026. With a deep commitment to bringing world-class voices to Tulane's campus and using those voices to foster dialogue across disciplines, identities, and communities. IEW's 2026 theme, From Fragments to Futures: Narratives of Displacement and Renewal, finds its fullest expression in literature and language arts, the very domain the Carole Barnette Boudreaux '65 series exists to champion. Established by Carole and Ken Boudreaux, the endowment continues its legacy of amplifying the leading literary voices of our time. By co-presenting Ocean Vuong, both programs amplify their shared belief that creative writing -and the arts in general- is not peripheral to global learning, but central to it, and that bringing extraordinary writers and artists to campus creates space for meaningful encounters between students, faculty, and the wider New Orleans community.
Ocean Vuong is the author of the critically acclaimed poetry collections Night Sky with Exit Wounds and Time Is a Mother, as well as the New York Times bestselling novel On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. A recipient of the MacArthur “Genius Grant” and the American Book Award, he was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and currently splits his time between western Massachusetts and New York City. The Emperor of Gladness is his latest novel.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

Join us for a delightful evening of dancing and dining at Mercy Family Center’s Hope Gala on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., hosted at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.

This special evening brings together dedicated supporters to champion a vital cause: providing critical mental health care in our clinics and funding essential school- and community-based mental health programs like Project Fleur-de-lis.

The Hope Gala will feature a lively musical performance by The New Orleans Mystics and a delicious buffet by American Sector Catering as well as a silent auction and raffle.

Mercy Family Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with clinics in Metairie and Mandeville. As an outpatient behavioral health provider, it is dedicated to the mental health and well-being of children, adolescents, and adults across the Greater New Orleans area. And 65% of the care that is provided is covered by Medicaid, fee-assisted, or free. Your support for this event provides funding for charity care in their clinics and mental health services in schools/community groups. In short, Mercy Family Center helps so many people who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to receive care. Join us!

ANYTHING GOES: Have a story that didn’t fit a Moth theme? We’re throwing themes out the window! This is your chance to tell a tale about whatever your heart desires. Carte blanche to share from the deep cuts, the archived memories, the untold stories. Everything but the kitchen sink. Was your name not selected from the hat? Does a blank page feel too daunting? Find inspiration from any of our past themes. You decide!

Tickets for this StorySLAM go on sale 3 weeks prior to the show date at 3 PM ET.

Seating is not guaranteed and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before the show. Admission is not guaranteed for late arrivals. All sales final. At least 10 tickets may be available at the door for all of our StorySLAMs on a first-come, first-served basis.
