There will be a new mayor-president in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Louisiana voters decided on four measures to amend the state’s constitution in Saturday’s election. Turnout was just over 10%, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Gabriela Biro will represent the district that includes Gentilly, New Orleans East and parts of the 9th Ward. She’s new to politics but had the backing of the local teachers union.

The Public Affairs Research Council (PAR), a nonpartisan governmental research organization led various public discussions regarding the four amendments and compiled a 13-page report detailing each measure.

Former Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has endorsed Sharon Weston Broome as she seeks her third term as mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Measures appeared on the ballot in 41 states and focused on issues ranging from abortion access, to noncitizen voting and marijuana legalization, to legalization of some psychedelics.
